Through this review, New York Public Library (NYPL) is the well-known public library building in the United States. The NYPL is the main branches building which is easily recognizable by its lion statues named Patience and Fortitude that sit either side of the entrance. These statues was declared by National Historic Landmark in 1965. The author believes that the positive influence to the rural libraries have on the lives of their patrons each year are just as impressive if physically imposing as the New York Public Library (NYPL). The rural libraries in the country that have the lowest broadband adoption rates offered free broadband access, inclusive of computer terminals and staff assistance in using the internet.
According to the author, rural libraries is a free educational resources to users and at least they can help users in finding information such as health information. The barriers that have faced by rural America can be met with a discussion of how rural public libraries and librarians actively work in order to mitigate these issues. This article show us how much rural public libraries do for their communities. Then, modern political climate that currently surrounds rural America and rural libraries. I notice that rural libraries also have a chance to show their value and obtain greater support, as more attention is being paid now than in recent decades to the challenges those in rural parts of the country face. The librarians in the rural public are already going above and beyond in order to benefit their communities and any additional support will allow them to go further.
In the library and information science (LIS) field, scholars conducted an excellent scholarship on rural libraries. Dr. Bharat Mehra is a person that has used his research as a means to meet the practical needs of rural libraries and librarians. People which is willing to know detail on how academics can do more to help rural small library would be served by delving further into his published research. The book entitle “Small Libraries, Big Impact: How to Better Serve Your Community in the Digital Age” written by Dr. Yunfei Du have a good chapter at the end of library assessment whereby they tell about how librarian can meet the need of their communities. Other than that, it also tell about the measure impact of their libraries. Academics need to take a role as a leader to conduct the research that can influence the rural librarians, funder and allies. They also need to cooperate with rural library practitioners in order to aid them disseminate information that can be used by their peers in other locations, regardless of whether this is through publication or not.
The founder of Center for the Study of Rural Librarianship (CSRL), Dr. Bernard Vavrek continued operation of rural librarianship after his retirement and put much effort to reach out to librarians in less populous areas. Then, he offers a course on rural librarianship.
Based on this article, it state that each person have the right to access to certain forms of information, including the information of government which is they allows one to fully engage in a democracy. It can only be fully and efficiently accessed through the internet. If internet consider to be a must to implementation one’s right, so it can be said that internet is a right. They assume that rights will be meaningful if they are extended to all people in a society. Thereby, government intervention to diminish the impact of geographic and economic barriers to broadband deployment and internet access in rural areas. It is not only increase rural residents’ quality but then an act of social justice.
The author and his friend, Norman, split the data that showing how trends across libraries change as they are farther from population centers. They noticed that rural libraries near the fringes of population centers have more resources than others. While focusing on the technological issues, they proceed to look at the barriers that are caused by organization structure. If it take a long time to solve, it will be exacerbated as it becomes more cost prohibitive to purchase.
Besides, “Exploring Rural Public Library Assets for Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD)”, by Karen Miller , the quality of life for local residents can be improved by the communities. She argues that library offerings assets such as computer terminals, well-trained and helpful staff, and information resources. In this article, the author came up with the important factors that determine what assets libraries have to offer their communities. There are;

Next, the government funding assistance also should be considered and how some part of country allows libraries to do more for their patrons, regional trends in the number of librarian who hold a Master of Library Science (MLIS), average number of computer terminals and how these meet the patron need. Miller combines her statistical analysis and make suggests as to what librarians, government and other funding bodies and those in academic can do to aid close service gaps between libraries in the different parts of the United States. Mostly, rural librarian do not hold MLIS. Hence, the person who shown their interest to this field, try to expand their skill and have better serve to communities will be allowed.
This preface look like to acknowledge two recent. The first one is rural America is getting more press attention. People across the political spectrum are paying attention to rural problems so this is difficult political situation to navigate. The second is rural libraries risk of serious funding reductions whereby they saw significant budget cuts and staffing decreases.
In this paper, I summarize the content given by the author is not really long compare with another article entitle “Rural Librarians as Change Agents in The Twenty-first Century: Applying Community Informatics in the Southern and Central Appalachian Region to Further ICT Literacy Training”. This article only have 10 pages. This article quite hard to understand so I need to refer another material (dictionary). The author give a lot of sources during write this research as I could see that in the references list.
