The enormity of the task ahead lends itself to a multitude of solutions, and the BPF is keen to explore the housing options that are currently on offer, and where lessons may be learnt from international experiences.

There are numerous terms which describe this type of living and micro-living is one of them. According to the British Property Federation, micro living refers to accommodation types that do not follow the UK’s prescribed minimum space standards. There are three categories as you can see in the infographic below:1. COMPACT LIVING: Small houses including all the basic housing needs in their private space.
2. CO-LIVING: Purpose-built spaces including a mixture of personal and shared amenity space.3. SHARED LIVING: Transformed or subdivided houses so that some facilities are shared by the residents outside of their personal space.
