Organizational Control Methods
Organizational control is a process, which managers can use to regulate and control organizational activities to ensure that every process runs smoothly. This is important in aligning organizational processes to organizational goals and involves planning, setting targets, and expected performance standards (Daft, 2018). If organizational processes are not according to the desired expectations, these gaps should be identified through an analysis of the collected feedback and corrective action taken to keep the performance of the organization in line with the established organizational goals (Daft, 2018). From the perspective of a general manager in the nursing practice, the organizational control methods, which would be the most universal, include the balanced scorecard. This control method involves analyzing a balanced perspective of an organizational performance by evaluating the performance of different departments in an organization (Daft, 2018).
This information helps managers in analyzing the performance of different areas of an organization against the desired organizational goals and taking necessary action where gaps are identified (Daft, 2018). This organizational control method is important as it serves as a core control system to managers. This control system also focuses on important aspects of an organization, which include financial aspects, effectiveness of the organizational processes, and the growth in different areas of the organization (Daft, 2018). Another most universal organizational control method from the perspective of a general manager in the nursing practice field is the open-book management. This system is based on a decentralized philosophy, which enables all employees to make decisions as though they were the owners of the organization (Daft, 2018).
In the healthcare sector, it is important for every manager and employee to make important decisions as most healthcare decisions involve a matter of life and death (Daft, 2018). This is better achieved by a good networking, which enables all employees to access information and increases their performance, which will also lead to improved performance in the organization (Daft, 2018). In my sphere of influence as a nurse leader, organizational control has a direct influence on employee performance through influencing behaviors, which are aimed at achieving the organization’s objectives (Daft, 2018). This is because organizational control influences the decisions made by employees of an organization, which are directed towards achieving the organization’s vision. Managers should set examples in the nursing profession to influence other employees, which will also encourage improved performance (Daft, 2018).
