Chapter 2 E-waste Problems

Electronic products contains multiple harmful products such as lead, mercury, cadmium, brominated flame retardants, hexavalent chromium and polyvinyl chloride.
These electronic products are thrown away daily to wastelands. The harmful products will then leak into the nearby soil and contaminate the river. And as the result of this, the plants and water is now contaminated and is hazardous to the residents of the area.
Based from these statistics, the lifespan of electronics and the amount of waste produced global is inversely proportional to each other.

Chapter 3 E-waste Re-cycling and its problems

While e-waste contains toxic products, it also have multiple useful and valuable metals like copper, steel, gold, aluminium. It also contains glass. All of these materials can be recycled and recovered and be used on new products. This reduce the need to mine resources directly from Earth as the materials can be recycled from e-waste.

It requires a lot of manpower and quite an amount of time to recycle e-waste and also the gases that it produced ,when u are trying to take out the metals, are poisonous.

Chapter 4 Proposed solution

The proposed solution is to add incentives to recycling e-waste as well as increase awareness of e-waste in general. By adding incentives to e-waste ($1 for 2kg), people would be more likely to recycle their e-waste for exchange for a bit of money. The government/NEA can also run advertisements to increase awareness of the problems of e-waste. By increasing awareness, people are more likely to understand the effects of e-waste on the environment and the pros of recycling e-waste.

Chapter 5 Conclusion

In conclusion, e-waste is unwanted electronic products that is thrown away. Such e-waste contains harmful products and can result in contamination in nearby land and river, which will harm the environment, animals and the people in the nearby area. However, E-waste contains useful materials such as gold and iron which can be recycled. The recycled materials can then be used for new products such as electronics. However, many e-waste is not being recycled as people do not understand the importance of recycling e-waste. Thus, the proposed solution is to create a programme that increases awareness of the pros of recycling e-waste. Another alternative is to provide incentive for the amount of electronic waste you recycle e.g. $1 for 2kg of electronic waste.
