According to study by the Royal academy of engineering in 2004, offshore wind power costs 7.2 p/kWh, however, by 2011 offshore wind cost had been recognised at 16.9 p/kWh which is significantly higher than the earlier estimation. The major reasons of elevated costs are related to high costs of installation, operation, maintenance, transmission and decommission.According to study by the Royal academy of engineering in 2004, offshore wind power costs 7.2 p/kWh, however, by 2011 offshore wind cost had been recognised at 16.9 p/kWh which is significantly higher than the earlier estimation.
