According to study by the Royal academy of engineering in 2004, offshore wind power costs 7.2 p/kWh, however, by 2011 offshore wind cost had been recognised at 16.9 p/kWh which is significantly higher than the earlier estimation. The major reasons of elevated costs are related to high costs of installation, operation, maintenance, transmission and decommission.
